RECOMMENDED: Click here to fix Windows errors and optimize system performance
You may experience this problem when you open your camera application under Windows 10/8 and this error message appears:
This application requires your permission to use your camera – you can change this in the application settings
The main reason this could happen is that permission for the application has been denied or never been requested. For example, the travel application can use your location to identify places of interest near you, a photo application can use your image library to create a slide show, or an instant messaging application can use the webcam connected to your PC for video chats. If the application does not respond or if you reject it, it remains blocked until you unblock it manually, that is, you set the authorization manually.
In this article, I will show you how to manually set or grant permission for the camera application.
- Open your camera application
- Press Win + C to open Charms.
- Click on Settings
- Now Click on Permissions – where we allow the camera application to use our Webcam & Microphone.
- Put the webcam and microphone from Off to On.
Close and reopen the camera application. Your camera application should now work correctly. Remember that this applies to any other application used by your camera or microphone.

In Windows 10, you get the settings here – Settings > Privacy > Camera. Turn the switch to the ON or OFF position as required.
The camera application cannot be used with this version of Windows.
