The Photos application included in Windows 10 is a universal application that lets you enjoy, organize, edit and share all your digital memories. It gathers photos and videos from all your devices, enhances them to make even better photos, and organizes them into beautiful albums for you.
By default, the Photos application uses face detection and recognition technology to combine photos of people from added folders to better identify and organize them. The data is stored on your camera.
This tutorial shows you how to enable or disable detection and recognition of people’s faces in the Photos app for your account in Windows 10.
Enabling and Disabling the Peoples Setting in the Microsoft Photos App
How do I reset face recognition in the Microsoft Photos application?
- Open the photos.
- Click on three dots in the upper right corner.
- Open the settings.
- Uncheck the People where option:
People Allow people in your photos and videos to be named and grouped and for this data to be stored on your device by turning on face detection and recognition.
- and wait or reboot.
- Repeat and reboot, wait for re-indexation.
This prevents the Photos application from detecting people in your photos in Windows 10.
You can always restore the default behavior.
Restoring the default behavior
If, at any time, you change your mind and decide that you want to reactivate face detection and recognition, simply repeat the above steps and reactivate the People setting.
This restores the default behavior:
- Open the Photos app.
- Open the Settings.
- Enable the People option, and you’re done.
That’s all there is to it. The photo application no longer recognizes the people in your photos.
