WSL or Windows Subsystem for Linux for Windows 10 is an excellent tool for developers. But sometimes it triggers an error code 0x8007019e or 0x8000000d when starting the command line. Although the error appears to have a problem with the installation of the WSL, it could be a false positive. Some users have had WSL installed, but still face the problem. The error code is:

Installing, this may take a few minutes…
WslRegisterDistribution failed with error: 0x8007019e/0x8000000d
Error: 0x8007019e/0x8000000d The parameter is incorrect.
Press any key to continue.

This error occurs because Windows 10 functions are not supported. The error does not even allow you to use the WSL command line. In this article, we will see how to fix this bug in Windows 10.

Make sure that the Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL) is enabled.

  1. Open the Control Panel
  2. Programs and functions
  3. Enable and disable the Windows function
  4. Checking the Windows subsystem for Linux

Using the PowerShell cmdlet

Your Windows subsystem for Linux (WSL) is not enabled. To enable PowerShell as an administrator, open PowerShell and run the following command:

  1. Enable WindowsOptionnel -Online functionality -FunctionalityNameMicrosoft Windows Subsystem Linux
  2. Restart your computer when prompted.

CMD Bypass Solution

  • Go to the Start menu and search for the prompt.
  • Or press CTRL + R and type cmd.
  • Enter or copy each line individually:

wslconfig.exe /setdefault kali-rolling
bash
cd

  • From now on you can (as a workaround solution) start Kali Linux from the command line. Of course, this is not desirable, but it may be a temporary solution.
  • The error message “WslRegisterDistribution failed” is no longer displayed.
