We have already seen how the System File Checker allows users to search for and recover corrupted Windows system files. We also saw how to use System File Checker and earlier. But what if you see the following message at the end of the race?

Windows Resource Protection found corrupted files, but could not repair some of them. Details are contained in CBS.log windirLogsCBSCSC.log.

This message indicates that although the system file checker has finished scanning and found corrupted system files, it could not continue and replace them with good system files.

The Windows Resource Protection protects critical registry keys, folders and system files. If changes to a protected system file are detected, the modified file is recovered from a cached copy in the Windows folder itself.

If you get this message and the system file checker is unable to do its job when you run it, here are some things you can try.

1] Start to Safe Mode. Open a high prompt, type sfc/scannow and press Enter. More information on this issue, which is a problem.

2] If you wish or need it, you can run the system file check at Boot Time. This is an option that can help you because it checks the system file before Windows loads. Learn to run sfc /scannow at startup. Let’s see if it helps.

3] Use DISM. Open a high command prompt, execute the following command, and press Enter:

Dism /Online /Cleanup image /RestoreHealth

This command checks for damage to the component memory, records the damage, and corrects the damage. However, it may take some time! Useful if System File Verifier does not work.

4] Under Windows 10 try Reset this PC or New Start. Under Windows 8, perform a refresh or reset process. Automatic repair is also an option you should consider if you think it applies to your situation. Under Windows 7, perform a startup, repair or repair installation or upgrade on-site as desired.

To upgrade In-place to Windows 7 or Windows Vista, save your documents, close all open applications, and then insert the Windows DVD into the DVD drive. In the Configuration window, click Install Now. Click Go online to get the latest updates for installation (recommended). Enter the CD key when prompted. On the Install Windows page, select the operating system you want to upgrade and click Yes to accept the Microsoft software license terms. Then click Upgrade when prompted What type of installation do you want. When the process is complete, restart your PC.

5] You may also consider this option. Open the CBS.log file and look at the details of the corrupted files and manually replace the corrupted file with a good known copy . Navigate to C:WindowsLogsCBS and open the file SBS.log.
