In addition to deleting the Windows 8 Start menu, other functions have also been deleted, including the’Last Documents’ menu. If you remember, the shortcut/function displays a list of recently used files and documents. This is no longer available under Windows 8, but what can be a relief is that some features are maintained in the latest version of Windows, and you can easily get it with a little work.

In Windows 7, right-click Start > Properties > Start Menu tab > Customize > Select the Last Items check box > Click Apply/OK. In the Windows 7 Start menu, you will see the Recent option.

If you want to find a file you just created but have trouble finding, follow this message to place the latest documents or items on the Windows 8 start screen.

Press Win+R in combination to display the’Run’ dialog box. Enter recent and click’OK’.

File explorer opens at the following location : C:/User//Current. You will find all your recent activities such as various files or folders that you have accessed.

Now that the’Last Places’ folder is visible to you, place it on the’Home’ screen and access it whenever you want to search for your latest documents. But to do this, reopen the Explorer first. Press Ctrl+F1 simultaneously to expand the ribbon.

Then, select’Options’ in the’View’ menu to modify the opening parameters of items, files and folders.

In the’Options’ window, go to the’View’ tab and look for the option’Hide protected operating system files’. Just uncheck the box next to this option.

Just open the C:/users/in Explorer folder and right-click on the’Last documents’ field and select’Pin to Start’ from the menu. This adds a’Recently Used’ tile to your Windows 8 start screen.

This allows you to associate a shortcut to the Documents or Recent Items menu even under Windows 8.
