How long does it take for the computer to save the data entered by the mouse when the mouse button is pressed?
In games, any delay in input can affect the outcome of an event in the games. Low input latency is an important aspect of competitive games.
The latency you get when you are connected via the wireless receiver or via a cable. The time it takes for the computer to record the data entered by the mouse when the mouse button is pressed.
Many mouse-related problems can occur in Windows 10:
- Mouse delay in Windows 10 in games – Depending on the user, this problem may occur frequently in games. This can be a big problem because it can affect game performance.
- Mouse stuttering in Windows 10 – This is another issue reported by users. According to them, the mouse stutters frequently, making it difficult to perform daily tasks.

If you are using an older 27 MHz wireless device, try to keep the distance to the transmitter as short as possible. If you work at the edge of the 1.80 m range, you may receive a weaker signal and be more vulnerable to objects that physically block the transmitter’s signal. For 2.4 GHz or Bluetooth models, make sure that no other devices are operating on the same channel or band, which could also result in entry delay or other unpredictable behavior. And as always, keep these batteries fresh.
How do I Perform a Mouse Latency Test?
Here we will look at two methods of measuring mouse latency.
It works by comparing the difference between the hardware cursor movement and the last recorded position of the mouse.
After visiting the site, move your constantly moving mouse in the empty field provided.
In the figure above, the hardware position of the mouse cursor is black, while the red field indicates the actual position of the mouse. The difference between the two is the delay. The red circle represents “two frames” of input delay.
You don’t have to worry about the many details in the graph, just look for the small delta in the middle. This is the duration of the delay.
The small middle delta is calculated as a function of the time per mouse event.
In other words, if it takes 996 ms to complete 126 mouse events, then the average small delta or latency is 7.90 ms.
The best mouse latency on Windows should be about 8 ms. For the trackpad, it should be about 10 ms to 12 ms.
